Black Tip Sharks can be vicious

Louisiana Fly Fishing for Redfish & Black Drum

Nature is always wonderful and sometimes cruel

This beautiful Redfish was instantly terminated with one bite from a very aggressive Black Tip Shark. I watched the drama take place 150 feet off the stern of my boat…

As our day was near it's end, the water erupted violently as I watched a large school of giant Redfish rise above the surface of the calm bay. I poled the skiff into position as quickly as I could, trying to get the client set up to cast. As we approached we could see an injured fish slowly dying. It's blood pumped from the rear of his severed body with each beat of his heart. The fish lay dying in a pool of it's own blood that must have covered a 20 foot diameter.

Nature is always wonderful and sometimes cruel. The sight was both awesome and hideous. The Shark was a magnificent hunter and the once magnificent Redfish fell prey to the cycle of life in the ocean waters.

This 30" Black Tip took the fly ever so gently and then immediately launched out towards open water like a rocket. The same day we hooked a large shark near 5 feet. It immediately got into the backing and almost as quickly managed to free itself of the hook.
