The BumpMan gets the coveted Cajun Slam
Coach Wally Bumpas has entered into the elite world of those
that have earned the much sought after Cajun Slam. He started
the day out by taking the CoonAss Permit, the books call them
Sheepshead. Among many other fish caught that day, Coach landed
a large Redfish that weighed around 10 pounds. Near the day's
end Wally finalized his victory when he managed to trick a
nice Black Drum. All fish were released, but the photographs
stand as proof.
Because of Coach Wally's outstanding accomplishment, the
Mayor of Dulac awarded him the highest status given to
mortals. At the crowning ceremony the Mayor blessed him
with a seafood platter and entitled him, "an Honorary
CoonAss". With tears in his eyes and barely able to maintain
his composure, the coach gratefully thanked the crowds as
the cheers and roars of the audience nearly drowned out his
voice over the P. A. system.
David Goldberg, Wally's fishing friend, kept repeating over
and over again. "I feel so privileged to have been aboard.
To experience first hand and major feat that took place that
day is something I will never forget. I can only hope and
pray that some day I can stand in the Cajun Hall of Fame with
the greats like Coach Wally Bumpas".
Dave had a great day landing fish that tipped the scale as
high as 10 pounds. His ability to cast a loooong line was
a pleasure to watch.
Next month the "Q" Man, Quinton
Dickerson, is scheduled to fish with the Coach. We can
only hope and pray that "Q" is not totally unable
to function as he fishes in the same boat as the now famous
Cajun Slam recipient, Coach Wally Bumpas, "Honorary CoonAss".
NOTE: Since this article was written, the "Q-Man"
came, fished, and departed in glory. Check
